Two College Park Skyhawks Players Selected To Play In World Cup Qualifying

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – The College Park Skyhawks announced today that forward DaQuan Jeffries has been selected to the USA Men’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Team, and forward AJ Lawson has been selected to represent Canada in the same competition. Both teams will play two games later this month.

Through two games in College Park, Jeffries is averaging 16.0 points per game, including a team-high 25 points in the regular season opener (Nov. 5 vs. Maine). The 24-year-old has added 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game this season. Lawson, 21, is averaging 8.0 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Skyhawks, good for the second-highest rebounding average on the team.

Team USA and Canada will train at the University of Houston and will participate in the first competition window of 2021-23 FIBA World Cup Qualifying games, which will be played in a bubble format in Chihuahua, Mexico and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The Americans will face Cuba on Nov. 28 and will meet host Mexico on Nov. 29 in Chihuahua, while Canada will face Bahamas in back-to-back games on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 in Santo Domingo. The Skyhawks will be without their forwards for their Nov. 28 matchup against the Capital City Go-Go. Jeffries and Lawson will return to the team on Nov. 30, when the Skyhawks and Go-Go will face off for the second consecutive game.
