College Park to welcome team comprised of young prospects and NBA veterans

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – The College Park Skyhawks, the NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, today announced a Jan. 21 matchup against the NBA G League Ignite on 7 p.m. ET at Gateway Center Arena @ College Park. The meeting will mark the Ignite’s first contest during a four-game East Coast road swing as part of a broader 10-game stretch against professional opponents.

Based in Walnut Creek, CA, the club is headlined by a group of top NBA Draft-eligible high school prospects from around the world and also includes a mix of NBA and G League veterans who serve as mentors to the younger players. The Ignite had two players selected within the first seven picks of the 2021 NBA Draft, as Jalen Green was the second overall pick by the Houston Rockets and Jonathan Kuminga went seventh to the Golden State Warriors.

The Skyhawks recently unveiled a 50-game schedule for 2021-22, marking their first regular-season action since March 11, 2020 and their first home game since Feb. 29, 2020. College Park enters the season with a new coaching staff led by Head Coach Steve Gansey, who was head coach of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA G League from 2015-20, where he recorded a 123-120 mark and became the club’s all-time wins leader.

Fans will return to Gateway Center Arena @ College Park for the season opener on Friday, Nov. 5, when the club hosts the Maine Celtics at 7 p.m. ET in the first of seven scheduled theme games this season. Single-game tickets for Skyhawks home games are available for purchase now at cpskyhawks.com.
