Fourth and fifth grade students from West Clayton Elementary learn about different career paths from Skyhawks’ staff members

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – On Wednesday morning, the College Park Skyhawks hosted a Career Expo event for fourth and fifth grade students at West Clayton Elementary School.

“The interaction between our staff and the students brought a huge smile to everyone’s face today”, said Janice Koon, Vice President of G League, and NBA 2K League Operations for the Atlanta Hawks. “It was a joy and a privilege to have a number of our staff share with these students our own, distinctive career paths, and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead in their future.”

Each student was able to collaborate and learn from Skyhawks’ staff members to introduce them to some of the unique and different career opportunities they can pursue in the future.

The fourth and fifth grade students were able to stop at different career stations, which included broadcast and entertainment, retail, social media and graphic design, videography, and NBA 2K gaming.

Activities ranged from shopping at a mini Skyhawks shop with play money, to coloring in themed jerseys, to reading broadcast scripts and announcing starting lineups, to learning how to film with a camera, and playing NBA 2K.

“Our scholars had such a great time learning about different career opportunities that the sports field has to offer,” said West Clayton Elementary School Art Teacher, Janae Hightower. “Colli’s Classroom has made such a big impact in boosting our school morale, and we appreciate and love the Skyhawks for all they have done this year!”

The event is part of the Skyhawks’ yearlong “Colli’s Classroom” school adoption program, which started in September and aims to support West Clayton through at least two events at the school per month. The goal is to impact the school’s 400 students and 60 staff members throughout the entire school year.
